Loving Well

Who doesn't want to Love Well? Isn't that what Jesus did and what we want to copy? Jesus tells us in Matthew 22 that we are to love Him with all our heart, soul and mind, and to love others as ourselves. But how do we love like that?
I look at how many times I spend reading God's word anxious to start my day and then someone will say something to me to make me want to react in a not so godly way. Unfortunately at those times love is not on my radar. Does that ever happen to you?
I am learning that I need to soak more in his word and more specifically to get some verses into me that will come through when I need them the most.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Heb 4:12
It's his Word that can discern our intentions. It's his Word that can work in it! If you have his Word hidden in your heart - that is what will pierce your heart. That is what is going to stop you from reacting in that not so godly way.
This year we will be soaking in His word - especially when it comes to love. Focusing on the two greatest commandments. Learning how to have real authentic relationships with God and with others. Learning to love how Jesus did.
The ESV version of the Bible has 684 references to love. Many telling us about how to love God and how to love others. Some of them tell us what love is not.
We are to walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Be a lover of God and not a lover of the pleasures of this world.
Did you know God promises those who love him a crown of life and they will be heirs to the kingdom?
Take some time to look over a few of the verses today to see what else he has for YOU!
The more I get to know the love of God, the more I love Him. The more I love Him, the more I love others. It is only through Him that I can love like he does.
Let me challenge you to keep a Love Journal. It can be any kind of journal you want, but make it one that you use to write Love Verses. Start to soak in those verses. Start to memorize those verses. Even just one at a time. One that God speaks to you about. You could even use the Perpetual Journal from our Fun Ideas page to list a love verse each day!
I'm excited to be on this journey with you! Let's share what God is showing us and how he is working in our lives.
So how will you Love Well this year?
Linda

Thank you for the inspiring post, Linda!
I recently had an assignment on love. I was to be still and quiet for 20 minutes a day for 4-5 days in a week. The only thing I was to focus on during that time was God's love for me. It is amazing what God will show you and how much He will love you right then, if you take the time to just be with him and soak in his love. Try it! It will change your devotion time forever.
Thanks Linda, I like the idea of the Love Journal.
