Words

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29

My words sprinkle, growing warmth in the heart of my husband.  My words drip-drop-drip-drip-drip over again, dragging across the nerve of the moment, coming against the building of our home drop by drop.  My words wash, sliding across the shattered minutes, asking forgiveness—convicted by my lack of kindness.

A woman whose words wash and build, grow and mend, strengthens her dwelling place and the love of her husband.  A woman whose words drip and freeze, forming shards of weaponry…to drop at any moment, is destructively tearing down all she hoped for and the gift she has been given in a husband and family.

May my words become soothing waters, calming, gently bringing forth wisdom from God.  May they be directed by the Word…building instead of breaking, bridging instead of dividing.

Beth

Proverbs 14:1 says - The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.  Tell us - what are you doing to build your house?

Sometimes I can do a better job of having encouraging words at work and for my friends than I do at home. Home is my comfort zone and sometimes it is harder to speak words of kindness and encouragement because it is where I come when I am the most tired and worn. But it is where I need to be the most encouraging because it is the place where I am loved the most and I should love people the most. Thanks Beth, for the reminder. I set the tone for my home.

Thank you Beth for that reminder. Our tongues can do so much damage. Thank you for writing our blogs.
